October 17 - 20

The French Tech Tour America — jointly organized by Bpifrance and Business France — involves new French digital companies interested in establishing a presence in North America in the next 12-18 months. From October 17th to 27th, 2017, these companies will benefit from support that will help them break into the Canadian and American markets. In Toronto (October 17th-20th), meetings will be organized so that the selected startups will have a better understanding of the practices and norms involved in local business, all while picking up on concrete commercial opportunities.

The seven participating start-ups will present their respective pitches to members of Toronto’s tech ecosystem on October 19th. Their presentations will be judged by a jury consisting of representatives of the MaRS Discovery District, Omers Ventures, and Capgemini, just ahead of a networking soirée organized in their honour. Registration is mandatory.

October 18 - 20

From October 16th to 20th, 2017, representatives of French companies will meet with major players in the nuclear industry in the United States and Canada as part of a program developed by Business France and the Groupement intersyndical de l’industrie nucléaire. Through exploration of the need for innovative solutions that would enable industry actors to improve their profitability, these meetings and visits will be an opportunity to gain a better understanding of issues involved in the world’s leading nuclear market and to identify opportunities for partnerships and initiatives.

Participating companies will be in Toronto on October 18th–20th. A special networking reception will be organized to give French and Canadian nuclear suppliers an opportunity to meet, share their experiences, and discuss business opportunities. Registration is mandatory.

The New Technology Venture Accelerator is a program of preparation and exposure to high-tech north-American markets for promising young innovative French companies. Since 2010, it is run by the Embassies of France to the United States and Canada in four locations: Boston, San Francisco, Washington DC and Toronto. The selected laureates are also paired with Canadian mentors prior to an intense week of immersion in Toronto.

A cocktail reception will be organized to welcome the participants and to bring together representatives of Toronto’s tech ecosystem. The five NETVA participants will showcase their solutions, and all of the participants will be invited to mingle and network during the reception.

Enterprising Culture is an international forum between Canadian and French startups and stakeholders from the worlds of culture, creative, and media industries. This is a binational and multi-sectoral event that incorporates debates, keynotes, and pitching sessions, where participants have opportunities for reflection and exploration of the economic dimension of the cultural sector.

Conferences and debates will involve academics, artists, and entrepreneurs in discussions regarding approaches to integrate art and cultural content with new technology in order to bring out new perspectives and meet audience expectations. For its second edition, the event will focus on immersive technologies for arts and culture that blur the line between the physical world and the digital/simulated world.

Since the turn of the new millennium, Ontario has been determined to support new businesses and innovative practices. Universities have worked to provide space and support for startups to grow, and ambitious accelerators have become worldwide points of reference. At the same time, France has been globally recognized for the vitality of its innovation ecosystem and its support for mobility, and Paris in particular has often been rated as one of the best cities for startups and for scale-ups.

This networking event organized by the Consulate General of France with the support of MaRS Discovery District will be a great opportunity for participants to reflect on public policy measures implemented in France and Ontario, and to familiarize themselves with the French innovation ecosystem. Let's plant our feet in this fabulous and mysterious ground. Let's discover the fascinating world of the soil and its connection to our cultures, including the Canadian culture. Agriculture, Astronomy, Farming, Music, Molecular Biology are some of the research fields that will reveal the extraordinary happening just below the surface. Two researchers of the French National Institute of Agricultural Research have been invited to present their works.   

The workshops/presentations are ongoing throughout the night, starting at 6pm. Recommended for all minds from 10 to 110 years old.
